The Most In-Demand Hotel Amenity in 2026 Isn't the Pool

Ask any hotel operator what drives bookings and you'll hear the usual list. The pool. Free breakfast. A good loyalty program. But the data tells a different story. The amenity that actually converts the most bookings right now? EV charging.
The Stat That Should Get Every Hotelier's Attention
According to Hilton's global head of sustainability, EV charging has become the highest-converting search filter on Hilton.com
. Guests who filter for EV charging are more likely to complete a reservation than those searching for pools, on-site dining, or complimentary breakfast.
That's not a prediction. That's live booking data from one of the largest hotel brands in the world.

Guests Aren't Just Preferring Chargers.
They're Choosing Hotels Because of Them.
A survey by the Boutique and Luxury Lodging Association (BLLA) and El-Monde found that 91% of EV drivers are more likely to stay at a hotel that offers charging. Nearly three out of four said they would pay a higher room rate for the convenience. And 80% said they would travel farther to stay at an EV-friendly property.
J.D. Power data backs that up. 38% of EV drivers have switched hotel loyalty entirely, choosing properties with chargers over their usual brand. That means hotels without charging aren't just missing a feature. They're losing repeat guests to competitors who have it.

Longer Stays, Higher Spending
The business case goes beyond bookings. According to STR global lodging data, EV guests stay 12% to 20% longer than average. They're also more likely to spend on on-site amenities like restaurants, bars, and meeting spaces while their vehicle charges overnight.
For hotel owners, Level 2 chargers are the natural fit here. Overnight guests don't need a 20-minute fast charge. They need a reliable plug they can connect when they check in and disconnect when they leave. That slower charge also generates more revenue per session for the property.
CBRE's Trends in the Hotel Industry report reinforced this, showing hotel parking department profit margins reached 61.3%, with parking revenues growing more than four times faster than total hotel revenues over the prior four years. EV charging adds another layer of revenue to an already profitable department.
Most Hotels Still Don't Have Chargers
Despite all of this, roughly three out of four U.S. hotels still don't offer EV charging, according to data from Greenview and the American Hotel and Lodging Association. That gap is shrinking as major brands expand their networks, but for independent and boutique properties, the window to stand out is right now.
J.D. Power now formally tracks EV charging as a guest satisfaction attribute in its North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Study. That tells you where the industry is headed. Charging isn't a bonus. It's becoming a baseline expectation.
What This Means for Hotel Owners
If your property doesn't have EV chargers yet, you're competing for a growing segment of travelers with one hand tied behind your back. The good news is that Level 2 installations are straightforward, and the ROI shows up in multiple places: direct charging revenue, longer stays, higher on-site spending, and stronger booking conversion.
The hotels that act now will be the ones EV drivers remember, return to, and recommend. The BLLA survey backs that up too. 98% of EV drivers said they would tell their EV-driving friends about a positive charging experience at a hotel.
That kind of word-of-mouth is hard to buy. But you can earn it with a couple of chargers in your parking lot.
