What $56,000 in Grant Money Actually Costs You

REVS recently closed out a grant application we filed in 2023.

The result was a full $56,000 reimbursement for a client with Level 2 charging at two multifamily properties, and it arrived three years after we filed.

Applying wasn't the problem. Getting paid at the end was.

We sent in all the final paperwork, and they came back asking for more. More than once we attached the same file a second and a third time, because whoever was asking clearly had not looked at what we already sent.

There was no contact phone number, and when we asked to get on a call and go through what was left, the answer was "no." Every cycle added months.

Qualifying was never the hard part

The final paperwork is where a grant is actually won or lost, because that's where the requests pile up and the answers stop making sense. Getting approved is the part everyone celebrates, and it's the easier half of the job.

A project can be approved, built, and energized and still pay out nothing if the paperwork never gets across the line.

These programs are not going to get friendlier. Someone has to be stubborn enough to see one through.

There's more than utility rebates

Incentives aren't limited to utility rebates. Several states run grant programs that reimburse a meaningful share of what a property spends on Level 2 charging stations, and those awards can be much larger than a utility rebate. Colorado is one example. You also do not have to choose between grant money and financing.

A property can use financing to cover the equipment and installation and still collect grant money on top of that.

Which programs apply to you depends on your market, your utility, and sometimes the specific property. You can't look that up in five minutes.

What we do about it

REVS has filed for these programs in upwards of 27 states. We know what each one asks for, which documentation gets rejected, and how long the waiting actually takes.

We can take the filing off your plate entirely or guide your team through it if you would rather keep it in house. Either way, you're not figuring it out alone.

Three years is a long time to chase a reimbursement.

Handing a client $56,000 makes it worth it.
